Vittorio Emanuele III 1940 medals

Photo of Italian King Vittorio Emanuele III followed behind him by his son Italian Crown Prince Umberto (later Italian King Umberto II, the last King of Italy before Italy became a republic in 1946). This photo was taken in 1940.

I have uploaded this photo for those interested in making WW2 uniform depictions because it shows the arrangement of Vittorio Emanuele's medals after the changes of decoration-wearing regulations in 1938 as there are limited numbers of photos available showing him wearing medals at this time. For years the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus had been the second highest award with its award sash being worn when awarded to the wearer underneath the blue military sash. However in 1938 the Military Order of Savoy became the second highest award and its sash took priority over that of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus.
