Description
Flag of Canada, 1957-65.
The shield on the flag depicts the emblems of the European founding peoples of Canada. In order from left to right and from top to bottom are emblems representing the English and Welsh (as Wales was incorporated into England at the time of Britain being founded), Scottish, Irish, and the French. At the bottom are three red maple leaves representing Canada, as maple trees are a common tree found throughout Canada.
The flag was almost indistinguishable from the previous flag of 1921-57 except that it had red maple leaves (the colour that some maple leaves take in autumn) rather than the green maple leaves on the 1921-57 flag. The red maple leaves would serve as an inspiration for the current flag of Canada that replaced this flag.
Note 1: I use a standard palette of shades of colours for the flag designs. Contrary to the images of flags depicted on Wikipedia, I do not follow the "official" shades of colours claimed by governments as well as alternate history flags based on flags of existing countries. The problem is that it commonly results in bizarre shading of a flag if they are taken literally - in practice such "official" colour shades are almost never applied and standard reds, blues, etc, are used.
