Description

A set of alternate history depictions of the Flag and Emblem of Iraq,  Mashriq (upon an alt. history absorption of Jordan, Kuwait Lebanon, and Syria into a common state with its capital in Baghdad and having irredentist territorial claims on the Arab populated territories of British Mandate of Palestine and later the Israeli occupied territory of the West Bank into Iraq; as well as irredentist claims on Arab and Kurdish territories in Iran and Turkey) / and a proposed flag for a state of Arabokurdistan - a alt history planned confederation promoted by the Mashriqi government to unite all Arab and Kurdish territories into a common Arabokurdish state. The state of Mashriq holds much of the same territory held by the Neo-Babylonian Empire of Nebuchadnezzar II that the state of Mashriq emphasizes in its education system, showing Mashriq as the heir to the Neo-Babylonian Empire amongst other Mesopotamian civilizations.

The notion of a common Arabokurdish culture has historically been promoted in real life, including by the Iraqi government of Abd al-Karim Qasim, a man of mixed Arab-Kurdish descent who was initially popular amongst Kurds in Iraq. The depictions are divided into cultural traditionalist, secular, and communist depictions of the Flag and Emblem of Iraq / Mashriq / Arabokurdistan. The first two depictions could depict either a monarchy or a republic - whether it have a multi-party system or any non-communist single-party system, while the last can only depict a republic led by a communist party. The Flag and Emblem are inspired by the Flag and Emblem of Iraq from 1959 to 1963 during the Qasim government.

The Emblem in the centre of the flag is based upon the ancient Mesopotamian Star of Venus symbol with Arab-Kurdish colours, the red-white-green-black Arab colours; the red-white-green Kurdish colours; and a gold Kurdish sun in the middle of the Star of Venus symbol). The flag is emphasizing Mesopotamian heritage of the people and promoting a common Arabokurdish nation based on claims of common Mesopotamian ancestral heritage. The two white bands symbolize the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. The cultural traditionalist version of the flag depicts the Takbir, representing the dominant Islamic religious culture in Iraq. The secular version has the Star of Venus, Arab-Kurdish colours but no religious symbolism. The communist version of the Flag re-stylizes it with communist symbolism including the five-pointed communist red star replacing the six-pointed star as well as communist symbols of the working class: agricultural workers - a shovel, and industrial workers - a cogwheel.

The Emblem is also the Roundel of the military. For camouflage military uses it would be presented in shades of khaki, green, grey, etc, on sides of vehicles, aircraft, or ships.

Attribution: I am making no attribution claims to this file, it is entirely based on existing elements on flags and an emblem at Wikimedia Commons.

Note: I use a standard palette of shades of colours for the flag designs. Contrary to the images of flags depicted on Wikipedia, I do not follow the "official" shades of colours claimed by governments as well as alternate history flags based on flags of existing countries. The problem is that it commonly results in bizarre shading of a flag if they are taken literally - in practice such "official" colour shades are almost never applied and standard reds, blues, etc, are used.
