Flag Palestine (State), Hejaz (1 by 2, 1921-25)

Description

Flag of the State of Palestine. The government of the State of Palestine has succeeded the Palestinian National Authority that was established in the Oslo Accords. Israel does not recognizing the State of Palestine as a sovereign state and only recognizes the Palestinian National Aurhority's autonomous jurisdiction over the territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip that have been under the administration of Israel since 1967 and prior had been held by Jordan from 1948-67.

This flag was historically a 1 by 2 size variant of the flag of Hejaz of 1921-25, the 1 by 2 size variant while originally designed as 2 by 3 size. This 1 by 2 size variant of Hejaz was the same size as the 1 by 2 sized flags of the other territories in the Middle East also ruled by the House of Hashem as Hejaz after the Arab Revolt of 1916-18 and the 1 by 2 size was used because during British administration the flags were flown alongside the flag of Britain that is 1 by 2 size. Other t including Transjordan (now called Jordan) that had the same flag except with a star and Iraq that for a time had the same flag with two stars however to distinguish it from Transjordan's flag the flag of Iraq from 1924-59 replaced the red triangle with a red trapezoid with two stars in it. This flag was a popular Arab nationalist symbol and was used by Arab nationalists in Palestine during the Arab-Jewish conflict over increased Jewish settlement in Mandatory Palestine with the flag being seen used by Arab Palestinians since 1928.

Note: I use a standard palette of shades of colours for the flag designs. Contrary to the images of flags depicted on Wikipedia, I do not follow the "official" shades of colours claimed by governments as well as alternate history flags based on flags of existing countries. The problem is that it commonly results in bizarre shading of a flag if they are taken literally - in practice such "official" colour shades are almost never applied and standard reds, blues, etc, are used.
