Fascist agitprop - Italy trapped in Mediterranean

Agitprop from the National Fascist Party of Italy in 1929 depicting Italy as being economically trapped in the Mediterranean Sea by foreign powers controlling all sea access to the Mediterranean Sea and disrupting Italy's trade. The Fascists claimed that the main sea access points to the Mediterranean: Gibraltrar, the Suez Canal, and the Dardanelles, had to stop impeding Italy's economy.

This would later become one of the issues that led Italy to intervene in World War II to entrench its vision of Mare Nostrum (Latin for "Our Sea"), a term used in ancient Rome and by the Fascist government that regarded Italy's dominance in the Mediterranean as essential to the defense of Italy from foreign threats, and to allow Italy's expansion as a major world power.
